Real Estate The source () references many real estate patents, but the Dorsey holding named “Hockley in the Hole” was received by Edward Dorsey sometime before 1658. It was 400 acres in Ann Arundell Co. on the south side of the Severn River near a branch of the Broad Creek. (Note that most land grants in Ann Arundell were recorded in 1706 after a fire destroyed all records. Thus original records are gone.) [1]

Notes	On 15 Dec. 1642, Cornelius Lloyd received a grant of land for bringing 20 persons into Lower Norfolk Co., Va. Listed among those he brought into the colony were one “Edw; -orsey” (letter obliterated). But on 7 Oct. 1646, Thomas Brown was given 240 acres due by assignment of the rights for the transportation by Cornelius Lloyd, among them clearly listed Edward Dorsey (source sites Patents 2, State of Va., f. 113). By 1648, freedom of religion in Virginia had been prohibited and many settlers left to resettle in the newy formed county of Anne Arundell in Maryland. Edward Dorsey was one of several early Dorsey settlers in Maryland (others include 3 Dorsey brothers who settled in Calvert Co. and the eastern shore, c. 1670).
