- It is believed that he is the progenitor of all Barnard’s in Nantucket Island, Mass.
Savage says: NATHANIEL, Boston, m. 11 Feb. 1659, Mary, d. of John Lugg, perhaps rem. to Nantucket, there [] had Mary, b. 24 Feb. 1667; Hannah, 19 July 1669; John, 24 Feb. 1671; Nathaniel, 24 Nov. 1672; Stephen, 16 Feb. 1675; Sarah, 23 Mar. 1677; and Elinor, 18 June 1679; beside Benjamin, Ebenezer, Timothy, and Abigail, all, or most bef. the preced. But high Nantucket authority claims that the f. of those seven ch. came in 1650, with his uncle, Robert Barnard, from Eng. whose d. he m. and there d. 29 Apr. or 3 May 1718, as also that his w. d. 17 Mar. preced. Of the right Nathaniel, I suppose, Thomas of Salisbury was the f. and he (whether h. of the d. of Lugg or not) is call. progenit. of all the inhabs. of the isl. of this name.
