- From John Joseph Mays "Danforth Geneology. Nicholas Danforth of Framingham, England & Cambridge, N.E. (1589-1638) and William Danforth of Newbury, Mass. (1640-1721) and Their Descendants"
"One of the most eminent of the descendants of Nicholas through this line was Hon. Josiah Quincy, Jr., born 4 Feb., 1772, died in 1864 (son of the distinguished pre-Revolutionary patriot, Josiah Quincy, by his wife Abigail (Bromfield) Phillips). He was a member of Congress early in the century and a leading advocate in that body and everywhere for the abolition of slavery and the amelioration of the condition of all oppressed and degraded. H.C. [Harvard College] 1790, Mayor of Boston, 1823-29. President of Harvard University, 1829-45. It is the belief of this writer that the town and city of Boston owed more to him than to any other man that has lived in it. His statue in bronze stands in front of the City Hall."
