- According to the 1920 Federal Census for the town of Johnsville, Frederick Co., Maryland, Halbert L. Stone, a. 47, was a dairy farmer living with his wife Julia , a.42, and children Mary R. L, a.16, Caroline H., a. 13, ans Charlotte L., a.7. All children were born in Maryland, as was Halbert. Julia was born in Kansas. Halbert’s father was born in Virginia, his mother in Maryland. Also living with the family was a boarder who acted as a chore boy, named George L. Smith, a. 11, born in Ohio. (see roll T625-673, p. 85)
The 1930 Federal Census for the Longanore township, Frederick Co., Maryland, shows Halbert L, a. 58, still with wife Julia M., a. 52. Daughter Charlotte L., a. 17, still lives with them. Note that this record shows that Julia is Halbert’s second wife -- his age at first marriage is listed as 26 (about 1898), hers is listed as 30 (about 1908). (see roll T626_874, p. 2A) [4, 5]
