On 7 April 1675, he was convicted by the Selectman of the town for violating Town Order No. 4 -- forbidding the entertainment of a guest in one’s house for more than 3 days. The charge was that he entertained the widow Farmer in his house for 14 days and he was fined 7 shillings. Twenty days later he married her daughter -- he had been housing his future mother-in-law!
